The British Invasion: Wattpad Celebrates the United Kingdom

This Thursday, Queen Elizabeth will celebrate her 90th birthday. Later in the week, the world will commemorate 400 years since the death of the great English bard, William Shakespeare. With these incredible milestones around the corner, we wanted to put a spotlight on the people who use Wattpad from in the United Kingdom (UK). Last month, more than 1.3 million people visited Wattpad from in the UK. This active and growing community also spent over 220 million minutes reading on Wattpad in the last thirty days. This means the Wattpad community across the pond is one of the most engaged on the platform.

Wattpad provides an easy way for UK writers to reach a total monthly audience of 45 million people. Since January, people in the UK have shared 1.5 million story uploads and many writers, like Leigh Ansell and Beth Reekles, have amassed huge followings on Wattpad by sharing entertaining stories. In fact, Leigh Ansell is one of 33 Wattpad authors featured in the first-of-its-kind anthology of celebrity imagines that will be in stores on April 26.

Apart from reading fanfiction stories, the UK community devours Humour and Short Stories on Wattpad. In this BBC Radio 4 interview, Lord Fellowes, creator of Downton Abbey, and Wattpad’s Head of Writer and Publisher Partnerships, Ashleigh Gardner, discuss why serialized stories and humour keep readers coming back.

We’re glad to host the active and engaged people who join the Wattpad community from in the UK. We hope that you’ll enjoy our next few posts over a spot of tea as we explore the insights related to Queen Elizabeth and William Shakespeare this week.
